| VISITING BHUTAN Tserim Orchid Sanctuary: The magnificent Tserim Orchid Sanctuary located at Rimchu is at an altitude of 1,400 m in Punakha. It has Historical significance of being the ancestral home of the Royal Majesties the queens of Bhutan. This lovely stretch of forest is home to excellent species of Orchids. Tserim Orchids covers an area of 5 acres on the bank on Phochu. ![]() Rhododendron garden : The Rhododendron garden in Thrumshingla National Park showcases the kingdoms rhododendron diversity in their natural habitat covering an area of 2 hectares. It is home to 22 different species of rhododendron. The Park was inaugurated on May 2 2002. Museums: Ta Dzong Nation museum of Bhutan is housed in an ancient watch tower, built in 1651 by the then Paro Penlop Tenzing Drugda. In 1965 the Third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck restored and converted the dilapidated Ta dzong into the National Museum, this was inaugurated in 1968. Ta dzong contains works of Arts, Handicrafts, Costumes, Old armor, stuffed animals, stamps and etc. ![]() The Phelchey Toenkhyim Museum: The Phelchey Toenkhyim Museum aims to exhibit the true Bhutanese rural lifestyle through original artifacts and demonstrations of rural customs and traditions, the habits our ancestors had and the skills they possessed. It is an education on rural life through proper documentation from thorough research. In order to present an authentic Bhutanese rural setting one can find a traditional watermill with millstones that date back more than 150 years, kitchen garden with vegetables that were grown and consumed by the people and a hot stone water bath. Click for more >> Textile Museum: This is located in the Thimphu, it is housed in a contemporary adaptation of traditional architecture specifically designed to showcase textiles in gracious gallery. It exhibits Bhutans finest woven embroidery and applique textiles, plus production techniques like weaving, dying and spinning. |
